“Valuing physical and mental health equally” – Parity of Esteem Event 15/10/14

If you have a mental health condition you are 3 times more likely to die before the age of 75 than if you do not.  In our network area this amounts to over 700 lives that could be saved per year.

We held an event on the 15 October 2014 at the Stadium of Light Sunderland to share practice and learning.  The event was a resounding success with over 200 delegates and we were fortunate to have a range of speakers from the North East and also the National Clinical Directors for Mental Health, Heart Disease and Learning Disabilities.   Delegates then took part in a number of breakout sessions in the afternoon where a range of topics were discussed.

Please see below the presentations from the morning session and slides from the breakout sessions.

Presentation 1 – Angus Bell – The scandal of Premature mortality

Presentation 2 – Guy Pilkington – A Primary Care Perspective

Presentation 3 – Alisdair Cameron – Whose parity is it anyway Oct14

Presentation 4 – Tony Branson – Psychological impact of cancer

Presentation 6 – Dr Geraldine Strathdee – Being Sad Makes Me Ill
